Wampus Cats invite public to suggest names for mascot
The Uwharrie Wampus Cats are putting out a call this week for fans to help name their new wampus cat mascot.
The mascot, which will make its first public appearances in April, is a fun-loving yellow wampus cat character with a hint of mischievousness to his look and a knack for hitting home runs. The new collegiate wood-bat team announced their team name at an event in Albemarle in late January and are getting ready for their first season.
The ball club invites the public to suggest names for the wampus cat from now until Tuesday, March 28 at 3 pm at wampuscatsbaseball.com/mascot. Then, the team will put finalists they pick from those suggestions up for an online vote for fans to select at the team’s social media pages. If your name suggestion gets picked as the eventual winner, they'll give you four tickets to a Uwharrie Wampus Cats home game and have you throw out a first pitch. They'll also provide a family pass for you and your family for a visit to nearby Tiger World. The first fan to suggest each name idea is eligible.
The mascot will roam foul territory at each of the Wampus Cats’ home games at downtown Albemarle’s Don Montgomery Park this summer, beginning Memorial Day Weekend. The new team will soon be releasing its inaugural season schedule and single-game general admission tickets this season will be $7.
